Key Partnerships
DCR's
The Department of Clinical Research (DCR) works with a wide range of national and international partners to advance clinical research through the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and resources.Â
University & Hospitals
National and International Collaborators
The Department of Clinical Research is an umbrella organisation between the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern and the University Hospitals, including Inselspital and Universitäre Psychiatrische Dienste (UPD), that facilitates and professionalises clinical and translational research partnerships.
DCR actively contributes to the Swiss clinical trial landscape, by partnering with the Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation to standardize methodologies and improve research infrastructure across the country.

Swiss Clinical Trials Organisation (SCTO)
The Swiss Clinical Trials Organisation (SCTO) is a national academic research infrastructure that brings together Clinical Research Centers (CRCs) from across Switzerland. The Department of Clinical Research is one of these centers, and as part of this network, it collaborates with peers nationwide to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in clinical research.
SCTO Platform
A key part of this collaboration is the SCTO Platform, where experts from different CRCs come together to exchange ideas and develop practical solutions to complex technical challenges in clinical research. The Platform is made up of several thematic groups, each focused on a specific area of clinical research. Each year, these groups support projects that align with their focus area and have the potential for broad impact across the network. Annual conferences provide an additional opportunity for the community to connect and share progress. While the topics vary across groups, the shared goal remains the same: to develop practical, technically sound tools and approaches that make the planning and conduct of clinical trials more efficient and reliable.

One example from the Statistics & Methodology Platform is the current project to validate the statistical software R for regulatory use in clinical trials. R is already a good tool in research, but to be used in trials that must meet strict regulatory requirements, it needs rigorous testing and thorough documentation. The fruits of this work could provide researchers with a validated and cost-effective option for complex data analysis, offering a real step forward for many CRCs.

Research on Research
The Department of Clinical Research takes advantage of the Research on Research intiative, that is made available by the SCTO, this initiative fund SCTO Network projects that strengthen Switzerland's clinical research structure, aiming at improving through critivally reviewing current practices, identifying pressing challenges and develop evidence-based solutions.
